Miami can really boast about its wide variety of parks, ranging from the largest to the smallest parks. You would never imagine that the city of Miami would have so much green and open space throughout.
Many areas have at least one park, whether it is just a small pool with surrounding trees or a huge park covering many acres. Here are some of the most popular parks and gardens in Miami, providing a calming and tranquil oasis, right in the heart of hectic Miami city life.

Hialeah Park is situated in North Miami and is a vast park with a number of interesting attractions. The park's centerpiece is an old-style thoroughbred horse racing track, which covers over 200 acres and is highly regarded in America. Other highlights of this Miami park include a Mediterranean-style clubhouse, immaculately manicured gardens, fountains, statues, ponds, a breeding colony of over 400 pink flamingos which originated from Cuba, and one of America's finest libraries on horse racing.

Miami's Tropical Park is one of the largest parks in Miami and includes many vast areas of parkland suitable for sports. There are a number of excellent facilities at the Tropical Park, such as four lakes, American football fields, soccer pitches, cycling pathways and areas designated for playing softball, volleyball and basketball. Tropical Park is also a popular park for jogging, boating, fishing, picnicking and generally relaxing in Miami, enjoying the famous Miami sunshine.

Miami's Amelia Earhart Park is a family oriented playground, featuring five lakes heavily stocked with fish for anglers, a country store, horse shoe pits, pony rides, a children's island, a barn with friendly farm animals that children are allowed to stroke, and picnic areas.
The park is named after Amelia Earhart, as in 1937 she stopped at a nearby air base, whilst on her ill-fated attempt to circle the globe.

Biscayne National Park is one of Miami's most accessible National Parks and much of the park is actually under water. One of the most popular excursions at Biscayne National Park is the Reef Cruise, which is a three-hour voyage from the Convoy Point Visitor Center on a glass-bottom boat. The boat has a viewing chamber that runs length ways, with thick-panel glass ports angled downwards. With clear waters, reefs, more than 200 species of colorful fish, and a wide range of sea creatures, the cruise is very memorable. Most of the water at Biscayne National Park is less than 10 feet / 3 meters deep and is also a popular place for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, canoeing and boating. There is also a campsite at Miami's scenic Biscayne National Park.

Matheson Hammock County Park is a former coconut plantation and covers around 100 acres. This large beach park is situated in the Coral Gables district of Miami, next to Biscayne Bay, and features excellent facilities. Attractions include an artificial lagoon area, a secluded and private beach, mangrove areas, interesting pathways, a marina, boat hire and a popular restaurant. A car parking area is also available at Miami's Matheson Hammock County Park.
